VIP members present: Marlene Tiernan, Chairperson; Gordon
Dodane, Sandra Drain, Mable Leyes, Bob Harrington. Angela Hodson
visited to determine interest in joining the committee. VIP Consultant,
Sandra Spees, and Mike Wanamaker, Public Works Manger were also
present.
Tiernan outlined some rules for the committee. Cell phones
should be turned off. All members should maintain proper etiquette
when speaking. Each member may speak for two minutes when asking
questions or when participating in discussions.
Drain presented pencil drawings for possible spring, winter
and summer banners. She had three drawings for each season. After
viewing the drawings the members voted for a holly theme for
winter, a daffodil theme for spring and a star/flag motif for
summer. Drain will do color renderings for submission to Bronner’s
and AAA Flags. Costs will be quoted for VIP approval.
Twenty-two banners will be installed along Route 725.
Photos of Beautification Award nominees were presented. After
voting the following were selected.
- 5685 Far Hills Avenue
- 5647 Nicolet Lane
- 9531 Bridlewood Trail
- 9514 Quailwood Trail
- 610 Woodbourne Trail
- Association on Burnet Isle Drive
Spees reviewed several items regarding her work.
- It has been determined that the plantings at Yanks Court
may be suffering from chlorosis. Soil samples will be analyzed
by Spectrum Analytic.
- The quotes for work on Paragon Road were discussed. Based
on quotes and work presented in the quotes Groundskeeper will
edge and mulch 63 trees along the boulevard. Grandma’s
Garden and Landscape will install 26 Armstrong maples which replace
trees removed previously. They will also install other landscape
plants in the two islands north of Route 725.
- With approval of Gary Huff, Township Administrator, Spees
will write articles for the quarterly newsletter. These will
be about horticultural and landscape information appropriate
for the time the issue is to be distributed.
- Six horticulture workshops are scheduled for January – July
of 2006. These will be held at Fire Station 45 on McEwen Road
on the fourth Thursday of the month. All will be from 7-9PM except
the February workshop on pruning which will be at 2PM at the
Rec Center. These workshops are free to residents of the township.
Information will be published in the township quarterly and in
various media outlets.
- Spees will get costs of new landscape pots to be placed at
Paragon Road.
- The Government Center Median is scheduled for landscaping
and decorative lighting. Information will be solicited from Dayton
Power and Light.
- The entryway signage and landscape at the Miami Township
line on Route 725 was presented. Tom Toberen will have surveyed
drawings made. Then a proposal will be solicited from landscape
architects. The streetscape plan originated by Kinzelman-Kline
will be the basis for the work.
Drain moved to allocate money for the horticulture workshops.
Leyes seconded. It was approved. Spees will determine amount
needed for each.
Tiernan told of the meeting held by Create the Vision with
Joe Howell from ODOT. She asked if the committee was interested
in ‘adopting a highway.’ They were not. Howell told
the attendees that there is some money for roadway improvements.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30PM.
