Fire History Display

Posted on Mar 28, 2017

Photos, news clippings and memorabilia from the early days of the Washington Township Fire Department are on display now through the day of the Americana Festival at the Ashahel Wright Museum, 26 N. Main St. The museum is open from noon to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday.

Snippets of Washington Township Fire Department history on display include the first known photo of a local fire, a wooden water main, a current set of fire gear, old walkie-talkies, fire hose, fire extinguishers and much more.

Ten informational boards cover every period in the fire department’s history, plus topics ranging from volunteers, chiefs and training to one that honors the two firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The display was created by Scott Henry of the Washington Township Fire Department and Susan Ross of Centerville-Washington History.
